    Carnaval in Olinda, Brazil

We are having a wonderful time in Brazil.  Carnaval is at its height.  Bands with dancers (organized by Blocos) constantly waltz through the streets.  Music — always, everywhere.  Smiling, colorfully adorned people — very friendly and welcoming.  Yesterday I followed a children’s parade — dressed as Bonacoes: grand-sized figures, mostly human, often politicians (to be […]

    Greetings from Brazil!

Enroute to Brazil, I offer a brief update to all my friends in Circle – spanning two years since The Beloved Community teleconference completed. My Lyme doctor has given me a green light to travel, so my husband Jefferson and I return to Brazil, our home-away-from-home, where we can swim anytime. The new version of […]

Circles for the Status of Women / Family Circles

I’m off again today — for NYC, to the UN, for meetings of the Commission on the Status of Women.  An exciting event. I’ll see many women from around the world in their beautiful traditional clothing, and I’ll hear what is critical for them. I’ll be convening circles at lunchtime in the UN cafeteria. Will […]

    I am yearning!

I am yearning. I want to connect with you. The February 3 Beloved Community teleconference is part of my answer. I seek the “good news”, and it’s out there. (Amy Goodman just reviewed amazing documentaries at Sundance, like “Freedom Summer” celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Mississippi Freedom Summer) Lots of good people are doing great […]

    Why Beloved Community? Why Circles?

February 3 will be a thrilling night as the teleconference begins with Dr. john powell. We will be celebrating the vision of The Beloved Community, gifted to us by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 50 years ago. Beloved Community is possible in our lifetimes – if we dream it, taste it, love it, dance it, […]

    Remembering Robert H. Simmons

I’ll spend much of the three-day weekend of Martin Luther King Day saying goodbye at the memorial of my dear teacher and friend, Dr. Robert H. Simmons. Robert was a circle leader extraordinaire. While not my first circle, our “Four Strong Winds” circle went deep, held strong, spoke our truths, and did our personal homework, […]

john a. powell to launch Beloved Community

We launch on February 3, as john a. powell ignites the journey to Beloved Community. Dr. powell, who humbly uses lower case for his name, makes a capital case for the Beloved Community. Inviting john powell came as a gift from a Circle Leader. Lorraine Cook participated in Dr. powell’s panel at Bioneers called… you […]

    Our Wedding in Machu Picchu

November 2 dawned slowly with fog, and then rainfall in Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo.  Jefferson and I met my sister Janet and brother-in-law Mike for breakfast, and we went over the plan for the wedding ceremony.  Once the rain lifted, we boarded the bus to the Machu Picchu City, from whence […]

Exploring Rich Roots of Human Civilization

Cusco is a remarkable ancient city, alive with gentle, artistic and soulful people.  I feel safe and alive here.  Yesterday we walked to some astounding Inca ruins around Cusco.  How were these enormous stones quarried? Lifted? Set in place so tightly and precisely?  What teamwork and creative problem solving!  Just the qualities we foster in […]

Caral – One Hundred Years of Peace

Greetings from Peru!  We have just arrived in Cusco and are settling in. Lima was lovely — a jumping off spot for us to visit Caral — oldest “Mother City” in the Americas, older pyramids than in Egypt.  Only Mesopotamia is older than Caral.  We had an amazing tour of that soulful place — a model […]
